A highly placed source in the Presidency, on Wednesday, reveals that the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has come to his wit end, following the recent declaration and action by the Senate.
Speaking with our Correspondent, the source who craved anonymity revealed that in politics there is no permanent friend, nor permanent enemy, by permanent interest.
“I can authoritatively tell you that Osinbajo will never allow Ibrahim Magu to retain his job, at the cost of his own political career.
“If Buhari does not return and take over the reigns of power as soon as possible, Osinbajo may be forced to sack Magu, to save his own political career.”
Recall, that the Senate, on Tuesday, had declared war with the Presidency, over the retention of Ibrahim Magu as Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, after the rejection of his nomination by the Legislature.
The Senate has to suspend the consideration and confirmation of appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari, based on a comment credited by Osinbajo, that the President was empowered to make some appointments without seeking Legislative approval, as provided in Section 171 of the Constitution.
Before now, Osinbajo had ruled out the possibility of Buhari replacing Magu with another nominee.
He said the President did not find the DSS report, which was the basis for Magu’s rejection, as a strong reason to replace the EFCC boss.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, said the Presidency is working hard to ensure that the controversy is settled
He however, did not disclose the specific steps he was taking to address the matter.
“My duty and the responsibility before me now, are to work more and speak little. So I will rather work on the matter to ensure amity, rather than speaking on the matter”, he said.
When asked specifically if the Presidency would sack Magu as requested by the Senate, Enang said: “I am working. It is not wise to speak. It is better to work.”
