Boko Haram: Yobe Governor Reacts To Geidam Attack.
The Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, has described the attack of Geidam town on Wednesday by Boko Haram insurgents as most unfortunate.
Recall that the insurgents had attacked the town at about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The insurgents stormed the town shooting sporadically causing many residents to panic and flee into the bush while others hid in their houses.
It was gathered that the terrorist planted themselves at strategic locations at the Geidam market and patiently waited for the right time to strike.
In a statement on Thursday by his Media Aide, Mamman Mohammed, governor Buni said the attack came at a time when there is a general improvement in peace and security across the state.
He noted that the attack would not deter his government in its efforts to rebuild, reconstruct and rehabilitate communities initially destroyed by the insurgents.
Buni, however, directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to provide emergency support and take stock of destructions with a view to rendering humanitarian support and assistance to victims.
The statement reads:
“Following the unfortunate attack by insurgents in Geidam town, Governor Mai Mala Buni has directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to provide emergency support and take stock of destructions with a view to render humanitarian support and assistance to victims.
“Buni commiserated with the people of Geidam and described the attack as most unfortunate. The attack came at a time when there is a general improvement in peace and security across the state. The general improvement in security and support provided by the government has given our people the opportunity to gradually resettle and reclaim their means of livelihood.”
Buni also praised the people of the state for their determination to rebuild their lives and move forward.
