Ay Makun, a well-known comedian, responded to trolls’ criticism by explaining why he can’t refuse the national honors conferred to him by former president Buhari.
The comedian had posted on social media about how thrilled he was to receive the national honor from the Buhari administration.
Social media users had reacted to this, and some of them used the comment section to disparage him for accepting an honor from an administration they had criticized.
In response, AY said that getting an award is the highest honor one can receive, and that it has nothing to do with the person who bestows it because the important thing is that he has contributed his fair share to the development of the country.
He maintained that his allegiance is first and foremost to Nigeria and not to a president or any political party.
AY wrote:
“Those of you shaming or asking me to reject ‘A National Honour’ are clearly missing a vital point. Our country is bigger and more important than any president or political party awarding it. A national honour is the highest recognition anyone can get for his or her contributions to nation building. So my allegiance is to a country where i have contributed my own quota, and i am more than happy to be rewarded by the same nation”
