Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has donated N5 million to the victims of Benue flooding.
In a statement released by the Atiku Media Office in Yola, the chieftain of All Progressives said “the massive flooding in Benue state that has led to the displacement of over 100,000 fellow Nigerians is a harrowing experience and that he is moved to sympathize with the people of Benue State.”
Atiku said that the catastrophic flooding in Benue also happening as the nation marks Eid-el-Kabir (eid-al-Adha), places an even greater duty of care on all of us who participate in this feast of sacrifice, which marks Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son.
He called on well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of our brothers and sisters in Benue.
“In this regard, Atiku is thus making a donation of Five Million Naira to the relief efforts for the flood victims in Benue state, according to the statement. He also calls on other Nigerians to be their brother’s keeper in his time of need.
“Atiku Abubakar noted that it is most gratifying that the Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency, has mobilized human and material resources to the affected areas and commends President Muhammadu Buhari for this intervention.
“Again, the Zege Mule U Tiv commiserates with the government and people of Benue state as they go through these challenges, and urges them to stand firm as all Nigerians feel their pain and share their suffering.”
