ASUU Denies Receiving ₦50bn, Warns of Fresh Strike, Calls FG’s Claim Fake News

ASUU has denied the Federal Government’s claim that it released ₦50 billion for university revitalisation, calling it fake news. The union said no federal university has received the funds or salary arrears and warned that if its demands remain unmet by November 21, 2025, it may resume its suspended strike.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has dismissed the Federal Government’s claim that it released ₦50 billion for university revitalisation, describing it as fake news.

In a statement by Prof. Jurbe Molwus, the union said no funds have reached any federal universities and none of its key demands have been met ahead of its NEC meeting slated for November 8–9, 2025.

ASUU also refuted reports that ₦2.3 billion was released for salary and promotion arrears, insisting members have received no payments.

Molwus said the government’s claims were misleading and stressed that lecturers need real action, not press statements. The union warned that if its demands — including withheld salaries and arrears — are not met by November 21, 2025, it may resume its suspended strike.

Summary:
ASUU has denied receiving ₦50bn from the Federal Government, calling the claim false. The union said no university has received the alleged funds or any salary arrears, warning that it may resume strike action if its demands remain unmet by November 21.
