Nigerian disc jockey and activist, DJ Switch, has sparked outrage online after her reaction to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Shortly after the news broke, DJ Switch took to her Instagram story and wrote:
“The sweet reality of inevitability. RIP MF. One down.”
The post, which many interpreted as mocking and celebratory, quickly generated criticism across social media, with users accusing her of being insensitive and disrespectful toward the dead.
In response to the backlash, DJ Switch released a video doubling down on her position. In it, she asked why Buhari deserved sympathy, questioning his contributions to the country.
“Please tell me what is Buhari’s achievement apart from destroying Nigeria. When you are a bad leader, people will drink to your demise, but when you lead with fairness, people will mourn when you die,” she stated.
She continued:
“I don’t need to prove my empathy to anybody. When I saw that news, it was like justice. Next on the list, T-Pain, how far?”
DJ Switch became internationally known during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, where she live-streamed the events at the Lekki Toll Gate. Since then, she has remained an outspoken voice against what she perceives as failed leadership in Nigeria.
