The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the temporary closure of its National Secretariat in Abuja for three days as a mark of respect for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
This development was made known in a statement issued on Monday, July 14, by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. According to the release, the Secretariat will remain shut until Thursday, July 17, 2025.
“In honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has closed its National Secretariat in Abuja,” the statement read. “In line with directives from the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Bukar Dalori, the closure takes effect from Monday, July 14, and the office will reopen on Thursday, July 17, 2025.”
The party also called on its members and Nigerians to join in mourning the late president through prayers and solemn reflection.
This announcement follows the official confirmation of Buhari’s death on Sunday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu via his Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, as well as Buhari’s former spokesman, Garba Shehu.
The former leader reportedly died in London around 4:30 p.m. after battling a prolonged illness.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, previously held power as a military ruler from 1984 to 1985.
In response to his passing, President Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.
Additionally, Tinubu ordered that national flags be flown at half-mast for seven days in tribute to the late statesman.
