APC National Chairman, Yilwatda Debunks Claims He’ll Replace Shettima as Tinubu’s Running Mate

  • APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has denied rumours linking him to President Tinubu’s 2027 running mate position, insisting that no discussions about replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima have taken place within the party.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has dismissed reports claiming that he has been selected as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Yilwatda described the rumours as false, baseless, and misleading. He also rejected speculation that the ruling party is considering dropping Vice President Kashim Shettima, insisting that such claims are unfounded.

“Not true. Nobody is discussing anything about the issue of the vice president,” Yilwatda stated.

According to him, conversations around a vice-presidential candidate can only take place after the party has concluded its presidential primary election. He explained that it is only after a presidential candidate emerges that discussions on selecting a running mate can begin.

“The issue of candidature comes after the primary election. It is after that the party and the candidate will sit down to select and nominate a running mate,” he said.

Yilwatda added that the rumours were being pushed by opposition elements in an attempt to distract the APC, stressing that no such discussions have occurred within the party.

“I laugh when I hear it. There is nothing like that at all. Nothing has been discussed,” he added.

He further noted that he had earlier advised APC appointees and elected officials to refrain from making public comments on vice-presidential matters, warning that such speculations only create unnecessary tension.
