- JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ish-aq Oloyede, made the announcement during the 2025 Policy Meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, July 8.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed Okeke Chinedu Christian from Anambra State as the top scorer in the 2025 UTME, achieving an impressive score of 375 out of 400.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ish-aq Oloyede, made the announcement during the 2025 Policy Meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, July 8.
Prof. Oloyede noted that Okeke chose the University of Lagos as his first-choice institution, where he intends to study Mechanical Engineering.
He also revealed that the second-highest scorer, Ayuba Simon-Peter John from Gombe State, scored 374 and selected Afe Babalola University to study the same course. The third position went to Jimoh Abdulmalik Olayinka from Kwara State, who scored 373 and also applied to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos.
Meanwhile …… The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced new cut-off marks for the 2025/2026 academic session. According to the latest update, candidates will need a minimum score of 150 for admission into universities. Polytechnics and colleges of education will accept 100, while colleges of nursing sciences now require 140.
The announcement was made during the JAMB Policy Meeting held in Abuja. The board noted that these figures serve as the baseline for admissions, but institutions are allowed to set higher cut-off marks based on the competitiveness of their courses and available space.
This development means that while students who meet these minimum scores are eligible to apply, scoring higher improves the chances of admission, especially for competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering. Candidates are also expected to participate in post-UTME screenings organised by their chosen institutions.
JAMB advised candidates to regularly check the websites of their preferred schools for departmental cut-offs, screening dates, and other requirements. Students are also urged to prepare seriously for post-UTME exams and not rely on the UTME score alone.
