Anambra Govt Arrests Vigilante Operatives Over Assault on NYSC Member

  • The Anambra State Government has arrested vigilante operatives who assaulted NYSC member Jennifer Elobor during a security operation, despite her presenting valid ID and uniform.
  • Disciplinary actions are underway, and the government vowed not to tolerate abuse of power by security personnel.

The Anambra State Government has confirmed the arrest of security operatives who assaulted NYSC member Jennifer Elobor.

A viral video showed the officers storming a lodge, accusing corps members of internet fraud despite presenting valid IDs and uniforms. Elobor was beaten, leaving her clothes torn and sparking widespread outrage online.

Governor Soludo’s aide, Ken Emeakayi, called the attack “unfortunate and unacceptable,” explaining it occurred during a joint security operation targeting suspected cultists.

“While the operatives were on the trail of some suspected cultists riding motorcycles, they entered the compound and, in the process of conducting searches, the unfortunate incident involving the corps member occurred,” Emeakayi said.

He stressed that although the operatives were carrying out their duties, their conduct in this instance violated the law.

Immediately the incident happened, we arrested the operatives involved and placed them in detention. Our practice is to first carry out preliminary investigations, bring in the victims and complainants, and then determine whether the matter warrants internal disciplinary action or prosecution,” he explained.

Emeakayi said he met with Elobor and NYSC officials to hear their account and confirmed disciplinary action is underway.

He clarified that Operation Udo Gatchi is a joint task force, while Agbunechemba is a statutory state security outfit. He assured that Governor Soludo’s administration will not tolerate abuse of power against innocent citizens.
