Popular Nollywood actor and lecturer, Afeez Oyetoro, widely known as Saka, has opened up about the challenges he faced at the beginning of his acting career and how they impacted his confidence, especially around women.

Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Saka revealed that he lacked financial stability in his early days in Nollywood. With no money, no car, and little recognition, he found it difficult to approach women, let alone consider marriage.

“I didn’t have confidence. It took me a long time to start toasting women. There was no money in acting then nobody recognized the actor. We were just doing it out of passion and they did not teach us how to make money from the theatre.

The respected actor, who also lectures at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin, recounted how many people didn’t take his profession seriously. Some even suggested he abandon acting for a “more meaningful” career.

“I had no car so obviously when you call a girl to marry they will say no, there’s no future for this man in fact one of them told me why don’t you quit acting, you’re wasting your life leave this theatre go and do something relevant for your life.

“The one that i was actually supposed to marry you was demanding that i must have two cars before she get married to me then something told me Afeez, this is not your wife so i ran away from there. It was when i got to the school, I got married”, he said.

Eventually, Oyetoro found love and stability. He is now married to Olaide Oyetoro, and the couple has three children.
