A grieving father in Abuja has publicly accused a staff member at the Gidan Mangoro Hospital of being responsible for the death of his newborn baby due to an unpaid medical fee.
In a viral and emotional video recorded at the hospital premises, the father, weeping, detailed how his wife had used the facility for her entire antenatal care without owing any fees.
He claimed that on the day of delivery, a staff member refused to commence a critical procedure because he could not immediately pay an outstanding balance of ₦8,000, leading the baby to be left unattended.
The distraught father’s statement included the following emotional quotes:
“Let the whole world hear. This is where my baby d!ed. Gidan Mangoro hospital. This where they k!lled my baby because of their incapability. They k!lled my child in this hospital. I have done everything they asked me to do from day one.”
“This is where we have been doing antenatal. I have not owed them N5…I brought my wife for delivery. They asked me to pay money, I said okay this is what I have first..because of N8000…I had to transfer N3000 to her first before she commenced. Before then, my baby was already weak.”
“Since yesterday, my baby has been on oxygen from one hospital to another hospital. This baby has been on oxygen. This is where the whole thing started. They k!lled my child here. I told the nurse, continue (work). How much is N8000? and the nurse insisted because of N8000. Now she cost me not even the money but my son’s life.”
“My wife is inside the hospital, she is not well. They had to lie to her that we have taken the child to another hospital! All because of their carelessness. I begged this women yesterday! I begged her! This woman refused to save my child’s life.”
