Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said the state was not affected by the recent power shortage that hit several parts of the country, attributing Abia’s steady electricity supply to its control over key power assets.

Speaking on the development, Governor Otti explained that a significant portion of the state’s electricity infrastructure is under Abia’s authority, which enabled it to maintain power supply despite nationwide challenges.

“I’m sure you are all aware of the recent power shortage, but Abia State was not affected because a whole part of our power asset is within our authority. This shows that we are making real progress,” the governor said.

Otti further disclosed that the state is exploring innovative energy solutions to boost power generation, including converting organic waste into electricity. According to him, waste management in the state will now serve a dual purpose by addressing environmental concerns while supporting sustainable energy production.

“All the organic waste we are disposing of will be converted into energy to power many places,” he added.

The governor’s comments have drawn attention to Abia State’s approach to energy independence at a time when power supply challenges persist across the country.
