Police Arrest Suspect Behind Fake Tinubu Audio Linked to VeryDarkMan Video

  • The Nigeria Police have arrested a suspect accused of creating the AI-generated presidential audio that was falsely attached to a video by VeryDarkMan, clarifying that the manipulated recording did not originate from the social media personality.
  • The announcement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians praising the investigation while others questioned the police’s priorities and called for greater focus on tackling insecurity.

The Nigeria Police Force has announced a breakthrough in its investigation into the viral AI-generated audio falsely attributed to President Bola Tinubu, confirming the arrest of a suspect allegedly responsible for creating and circulating the manipulated recording.

According to the police, the suspect, identified as Ifechukwu Dennis, allegedly generated the fake presidential voice note using artificial intelligence and superimposed it on an original video posted by social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

Authorities said investigations revealed that the doctored audio did not originate from VeryDarkMan but was later added to his video before being widely circulated online. The police said investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the incident.

The development has generated mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing differing opinions on the police investigation.
