- A presidential adviser has come under heavy criticism after saying that ransom money paid to kidnappers is essentially “Nigerians paying Nigerians,” describing the situation as “50-50.”
- The remark quickly went viral on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the statement and questioning the quality of advice being given to the President amid the country’s worsening insecurity.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Economic Matters has sparked widespread criticism after commenting on the growing wave of kidnappings in Nigeria, saying that the ransom money being paid to kidnappers ultimately comes from Nigerians.
Speaking on the issue, the presidential aide said:
“People are complaining about kidnappers kidnapping people and collecting huge ransoms. Who is making the money? Is it not Nigerians? Nigerians are paying ransoms to Nigerians. It is 50-50.”
The remark quickly went viral on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the statement and questioning the quality of advice being given to the President amid the country’s worsening insecurity.
Many critics argued that the comment appeared to shift attention away from the government’s responsibility to tackle kidnapping and protect citizens.
