Wanted bandit leader Bello Turji has reportedly claimed responsibility for recent attacks on security personnel in parts of Sokoto and Zamfara states, while declaring that his group is prepared for either negotiations or continued armed confrontation with the government.

According to reports, a video circulating on social media and dated June 20, 2026, shows a masked figure believed to be Turji speaking in Hausa alongside several armed men dressed in camouflage.

In the footage, the speaker allegedly claimed responsibility for retaliatory attacks carried out in areas including Shinkafi in Zamfara State and Sabon Birni in Sokoto State.

He accused certain individuals of targeting communities under his influence and seizing livestock, stating that the attacks were carried out in response to those actions.

According to the claims made in the video, members of his group had “overpowered” those involved in the operations and were working to recover cattle allegedly taken from their communities.

The speaker also addressed the possibility of peace talks with the government, indicating a willingness to negotiate if authorities pursue dialogue.

“If the government wants peace and dialogue, we are ready. If they want confrontation, we are also ready.”

The video surfaced shortly after reports emerged of an ambush along the Isa–Bargaja axis in Sokoto State, where suspected militants allegedly attacked security personnel responding to distress calls.

While reports suggest casualties were recorded during the incident, official figures have yet to be confirmed by authorities.

Security sources have also indicated that intelligence warnings regarding suspected militant movements in the area may not have been fully acted upon before the attack occurred.
