Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has paid tribute to her late friend and colleague Alex Ekubo following his burial, announcing a special gesture to honour his legacy.

The actor was laid to rest on Thursday, June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State, after a wake-keep attended by family, friends, and several Nollywood colleagues including Ini Edo, IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, Ayo Makun, and others.

Following the funeral, Omoni Oboli took to her Instagram page to express gratitude to God for the successful burial ceremony and to reflect on the emotional experience.

In her tribute, she announced that she would be releasing her film The First Lady on her YouTube channel in Alex Ekubo’s memory, with proceeds from the project going directly to his family.

She wrote:

“We’ve laid our bestie Alexx to rest in the glory of God. Thank you, Jesus!
In his memory and to honour his legacy, I am releasing our movie THE FIRST LADY on Omoni Oboli TV on YouTube by 5pm. The proceeds will go to the family, so please help us share widely.
Love you all so much, besties
Alexx Ekubo! You came, you saw! You conquered! You are forever in our hearts, bestie. Love you forever”

She also added that the tribute video was recorded earlier in the day before she attended the funeral, describing the event as both beautiful and emotionally painful.
