No Super Eagles Duty, Big Transfer Talk: Victor Osimhen Finally Breaks Silence

Even though Victor Osimhen won’t participate in Nigeria’s friendlies against Poland and Portugal, that doesn’t mean he isn’t still making headlines. Instead, the football world is still digesting the shocking news from Eric Chelle that Osimhen wanted to leave his current club.

However, the famous Super Eagle and former Napoli striker tried to calm the hysteria that sent the football world and the oddsmakers at the best betting sites into a frenzy. Osimhen has come out with this amazing rebuttal to silence any rumors about him exiting the Premier League, claiming that his manager, Eric Chelle, was simply misunderstood:

“My brother (Eric Chelle), unfortunately, said some words about me that have been taken out of context and blown way out of proportion. He also expressed how he feels about me and my career.

“First things first, he has great respect for the club Galatasaray, follows us in most of our games, and he never wanted any of this to be seen as a controversy.

“I appreciate the phone call and the opportunity he always gives me to represent my country, and I look forward to continuing to work with you.”

How the Controversy May Have Taken Off

According to Osimhen, Chelle’s words were simply taken out of context. Even though Osimhen continues to practice with Nigeria, news that he would not play in the friendlies against Poland and Portugal sent the rumor mill into overdrive. Eric Chelle also didn’t help the cause to stir down the misunderstanding with this remark:

“We will miss two players because Victor Osimhen had to change clubs, so I prefer that he stays, because if you play and you are not at one hundred percent, this is not good.

“And Ademola Lookman is very tired, and Atletico has asked us to let him so that we will travel with 18 players.”

Osimhen remains a vital cog in the Super Eagles’ rebuild for the 2030 World Cup after missing out on the 2026 games. The Super Eagles are retooling and breaking in new talent to play alongside Osimhen and Lookman, so according to Chelle, not paying in the friendlies helps Osimhen rest and stave off nagging injuries. In fact, coach Chelle plans for Osimhen to rest for the rest of the summer. This will also help the Super Eagles closely evaluate new players who have a long-term future.

So, for now, Osimhen, who has scored 59 goals in 74 appearances, appears to be staying at Galatasaray for the near future. Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked to acquiring the amazing 23-year-old. If Osimhen does jump to the Premier League, you can best believe that it will be one of the most momentous stories leading into Nigeria’s quest to make it to the 2030 World Cup.
