Social media commentator Honour Oriretan has taken aim at comedian Mark Angel over his recent wedding, describing the timing as inappropriate in light of the worsening insecurity situation in Nigeria.
In a post shared online, Oriretan linked the comedian’s celebration to the ongoing abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, arguing that the event showed a lack of sensitivity toward victims of the crisis.
He stated that holding a wedding during a period of national distress sends the wrong message, especially as families continue to grapple with the trauma of kidnappings and insecurity across parts of the country.
The commentator further claimed that some of the abducted victims in Oyo State could be fans of the comedian, insisting that public figures should be more mindful of the national mood before engaging in celebrations.
Quoting his post, Oriretan wrote: “Mark Angel marrying at this time the country is bleeding is unwise. A proof of ‘I don’t care’ attitude, lack of empathy.”
He also added: “Those kids, teachers kidnapped in Oyo state are probably his fans but thinking marrying now is the best way to show them support is more unwise.”
On the comedian’s choice of partner and age gap, he wrote: “Most unwise marrying a girl probably in her early 20s instead of from his age. THIS SURE A MISPLACED PRIORITY.”
Oriretan concluded with a strong demand, saying: “MY JUDGEMENT: Mark Angel has 48hrs to apologize, declare this wedding invalid to show solidarity with those kids, teachers suffering in the bush & redo fresh wedding after their release. Act fast.. Y’all be wise.. Don’t be unwise.”
