Social media commentator Tosin Silverdam has shared his thoughts on the outcome of the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), which was held on Saturday, May 9, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
The glamorous event saw several Nollywood stars walk away with awards after months of anticipation from fans and industry followers.
One of the major talking points from the ceremony was the performance of Funke Akindele’s movie, Behind the Scenes. Despite receiving six nominations ahead of the awards, the film failed to secure a win in any category.
Many fans had predicted that Akindele would emerge victorious in the Best Supporting Actress category after earning a nomination before voting began.
Reacting to the results, Silverdam described the situation as a “snub,” pointing out that the actress went home empty-handed despite the multiple nominations attached to her project. He also mentioned that some of Akindele’s supporters blamed the outcome on politics, while others argued that the actress had already surpassed the stage of competing for such awards.
The development sparked mixed reactions online. While some people agreed with Silverdam’s opinion, others noted that Toyin Abraham also failed to win any award despite her nominations.
Several fans argued that it may be time for established stars to make room for younger actors and actresses, claiming that award organisers now appear more interested in recognising emerging talents in the industry.
Others maintained that the AMVCA is not reserved for any particular individual, as they congratulated Linda Ejiofor on her Best Supporting Actress win.
Meanwhile, Funke Akindele’s Behind the Scenes previously made headlines after crossing the N2 billion mark at the box office following its cinema release, a milestone the actress proudly celebrated earlier.
