Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has shared an important message encouraging women to prioritise self-care and their overall well-being.
In a post on her Instagram page, she reflected on how she has come to understand that looking after oneself is not an act of selfishness. According to her, she has learned over time to put herself first through simple but meaningful practices such as resting, praying, visiting the spa or salon, and paying attention to her mental, physical, and spiritual health.
She noted that many women often give so much of themselves to others that they forget to recharge. She therefore encouraged them to take time to “fill themselves up,” show themselves love, and practice kindness towards themselves in their own little ways.
Akindele also emphasised that self-care does not have to be expensive or complicated. In her words, something as simple as resting, sleeping well, praying, taking a walk, or choosing peace of mind can go a long way in maintaining balance and happiness.
Her words…
“Self-Care Saturday!!!!!!
Over time, I’ve learned that taking care of yourself is not selfish; it’s necessary. From resting, praying, and spending time at the spa or salon to taking care of my mental, physical, and spiritual health, I’ve learned to prioritise myself, too.
As women, we pour so much into others, but you can’t pour from an empty cup. Fill yourself up too. Love yourself. Be kind to yourself. Take care of yourself in the little ways you can.
Self-care doesn’t always have to be expensive. Sometimes it’s simply resting, sleeping, praying, taking a walk, or giving yourself peace of mind.
What are you doing for yourself this weekend?”
