“We No Longer Want Obi”- Drama as ‘Obedient’ Faction Sacks Peter Obi From Obidient Movement

  • A faction claiming to be the original founders of the Obidient Movement says it has expelled Peter Obi and Yunusa Tanko.
  • The group also announced a rebranding and dissolution of post-2023 leadership structures ahead of 2027.

Fresh controversy has emerged within the Obidient Movement after a faction claiming to be the original founders announced the expulsion of Peter Obi and his ally, Yunusa Tanko, from the movement.

The group, speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, also declared the dissolution of all leadership structures created after the 2023 general elections and announced a rebranding of the movement from “Obidient” to “OBEDIENT.”

According to the faction’s International Coordinator, Dr. Barry Avotu Johnson, the decision was taken because the movement’s original vision had allegedly been hijacked after the 2023 elections.

He stated that the movement no longer wished to be associated with the Labour Party and accused some individuals of using the platform for “personal advantage and private gains.”

“The rebranding was necessary because after the 2023 elections, the original vision and founding ideals of the #Obidient Movement were no longer adequately represented by those who assumed control of its structure,” he said.

The faction also claimed that Peter Obi and Yunusa Tanko assumed leadership positions within the movement without the consent of the original founders.

However, several attempts to reach Obi and Tanko reportedly went unanswered at the time of filing the report.

The development quickly triggered reactions online, with many Nigerians questioning the legitimacy of the faction and the timing of the announcement ahead of the 2027 elections.

@iam_stilljoe reacted, “Another set of clowns. Imagine the forces against one person just because he said he won’t give shishi.”

Another user, @n6oflife6, mocked the situation, writing, “Lmaoooo… this is the best skit that has been acted in Nigeria this year.”

@LyfAcrosBorders commented, “They want to create division, the good thing is Obidients don’t have party.”

Meanwhile, @iam_polymath criticized the media coverage of the story, saying, “Arise TV tweeting this propaganda as real news confirms what I’ve always said.”
