A Nigerian woman identified as Mama P has voiced strong frustration over rising data costs, joining other protesters at the Abuja office of MTN Nigeria.
Speaking during the demonstration, she called on Nigerians to unite against what she described as unfair telecom charges affecting everyday life.
“I will advise every Nigerian to join this struggle because it affects our daily lives. How can I be paying ₦11,000 for data every two days? I’ve shown everyone here the receipt, this is th€ft,” she said.
The protest comes amid growing dissatisfaction with telecom services, as many subscribers complain about high data prices and inconsistent network quality.
Social media users also reacted strongly to the development, echoing similar concerns.
One user, @emmypau, questioned the company, writing, “Dear @MTNNG is it true that you’re stealing from Nigerians? because you need to come out and tell your own side of the story if it is true or not.”
Another, @CUdeachara, raised concerns about profitability, stating, “How did they make more 1 trillion naira in profit last year after tax without increase in their service delivery.”
Other users highlighted poor service quality alongside high costs. @nairafrost said, “Not just data, but the quality…. Person go buy data network go dey misbehave…”
Some commenters also broadened the conversation beyond one provider. @BigLionp2 wrote, “Why only MTN, what about Airtel, Glo.”
