Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has spoken out following the viral killing incident in Delta State, sharing her thoughts on the tragic development that has sparked widespread outrage online.
Reports earlier revealed that 28-year-old Mene Ogidi was shot dead by a police officer in Delta State, with a disturbing video circulating on social media showing him handcuffed and pleading for his life while restrained.
Reacting via her Instagram page, Jegede expressed anger over the incident, accusing the Nigerian Police Force of repeated acts of brutality, and linking the situation to the aftermath of the 2020 #EndSARS protests. She described the killing as unacceptable and questioned the handling of the arrest and detention process.
The actress also raised concerns about the actions of the officers involved, questioning why the situation escalated to a fatal outcome and why such personnel were not deployed to confront armed criminals instead.
“Why didn’t anyone try to stop him? Why aren’t these overzealous uniformed thieves going after bandits? This is too much,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has responded to the incident, stating that operatives acted on intelligence and arrested Ogidi while he was allegedly attempting to transport a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
In a related development, ASP Nuhu Usman, who led the operation, has reportedly been arrested, queried, and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for further disciplinary action and possible prosecution.
