Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has sparked reactions after comments he made rejecting the concept of the “prosperity gospel” drew criticism from gospel singer Testimony Jaga.

Osinbajo made the remarks during a live discussion at Rock of Ages Christian Assembly International, where he responded to points raised by Pastor Korede Komaiya on church teachings.

In a video that has since gone viral, Testimony Jaga pushed back strongly against the former vice-president’s position, insisting that the Christian message must cater to both spiritual and material wellbeing.

“There’s no such thing. There’s only one gospel, the gospel of Jesus Christ, sir,” he said.

The singer also questioned Osinbajo’s authority to comment on doctrinal matters, suggesting that his background in politics should be considered when discussing spiritual issues.

“With due respect, sir, I want to challenge you openly… show Nigerians what you did when you were vice president,” Jaga said.

He further criticised Osinbajo’s tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming the administration did not adequately tackle the country’s major challenges.

“When they asked you to resign as a good Christian, sir, did you resign?” he asked.

Jaga also raised concerns about the impact of Osinbajo’s time in office on Nigerians, particularly in relation to poverty reduction and social welfare.

“Show us how many poor people that you have helped genuinely… show us one school that you built,” he added.
