Irish actor and writer Michael Patrick, known for his brief role as a wildling rioter in season six of Game of Thrones, has passed away at the age of 35. He died peacefully at the Northern Ireland Hospice following a battle with motor neurone disease.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive condition that affects the nerves responsible for movement and currently has no cure, according to the UK’s National Health Service.
The actor’s wife, Naomi Sheehan, confirmed his passing in an emotional Instagram post shared on Wednesday, April 8. She revealed that Patrick, affectionately known as Mick, was diagnosed with the illness in February 2023 and had been moved to hospice care just ten days before his death.
According to Naomi, he spent his final moments surrounded by close family and friends. She expressed deep grief over the loss, saying the pain of losing him is beyond words.
She also paid a heartfelt tribute to her husband, describing him as an extraordinary individual who embraced life with passion, laughter, and a vibrant spirit. She referred to him as a towering figure with red hair who left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Naomi further shared one of Mick’s favourite quotes by Irish writer Brendan Behan, noting that it reflected his philosophy on life: the importance of enjoying simple pleasures like food, drink, and love.
Following the news of his passing, fans and colleagues have flooded social media with tributes, celebrating his lively personality, humour, and the inspiration he brought to those around him.
