“I Unfollowed the Big 3”- Omah Lay Opens Up on Afrobeats Rivalries and His Take on the Big 3

  • Omah Lay, a prominent Afrobeats artist, highlights a division in the Nigerian music scene.
  • The split is primarily between fans of two major artists: Davido and Wizkid.
  • He shared his insights during an interview with The Fader, an American media outlet.

Afrobeats artist Omah Stanley Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has expressed that the Nigerian music scene is largely split between supporters of Davido and those of Wizkid. In a conversation with American media outlet The Fader, he shared his perspective on the division within the industry.

Omah Lay revealed that there was a period when he chose to unfollow the so-called Afrobeats “Big 3” Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy because he disagreed with their approach to leading the genre. “The Nigerian Afrobeats landscape is really divided. If you align with Davido, you’re on one side; if you align with Wizkid, you’re on the other,” he explained. “Back in 2024, I unfollowed Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. I felt they were promoting a style for Afrobeats that had become outdated.”

Discussing his collaboration with Davido on the track With You, Omah Lay described the experience as organic and said it gave him a deeper appreciation for Davido’s character.

He also noted that Davido faces criticism due to his affluent background but emphasized that the DMW leader “has nothing to prove to anyone,” with his ambition and drive distinguishing him in the industry.

In a viral video circulating on social media, the lady questioned the state of internal crises within opposition parties, referencing figures such as Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

According to her, similar patterns of internal conflict have emerged across multiple parties, including the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party, raising questions about whether such issues are coincidental or influenced by external political pressure.Nigerian News Subscription

She said:

“If you say you’re the Jagaban, you’re the almighty, let other people contest with you so that you can win. What we’re seeing in ADC now happened with Labour Party and PDP, why’s it that it’s only where Peter Obi goes that this problem is?”

The woman further alleged that recent political movements and alliances may have unsettled the ruling party, suggesting that the growing strength of opposition figures is being closely monitored.

“Because Tinubu has seen the deflection of Kwankwaso, they have seen the power and what ADC can do, they’ve been having sleepless nights and doing everything possible to cripple opposition.”
