A Nigerian woman has stirred reactions online after sharing her disappointment following a failed visa application, despite making public preparations to relocate abroad.
The story was shared on Facebook by Racheal Joseph, where the woman recounted how she had confidently planned to leave Nigeria after receiving assurances from an agent that her visa was guaranteed.
According to her, she informed neighbours in her compound about her planned relocation and went as far as selling most of her household belongings in anticipation of the move.
The situation reportedly escalated after her mother also announced the relocation plans in church, further raising expectations among family and community members.
However, things took an unexpected turn when her visa application was denied, leaving her overwhelmed with embarrassment and uncertainty about how to face those she had earlier informed.
She admitted that her husband had advised caution, urging her to wait before making any announcements or selling their belongings, but she chose to rely on the agent’s confidence.
Expressing her distress, she turned to social media for advice.
“…Shame has covered me. Shame has taken over, shame has disgraced me.
Please mama where do I rush to or where do I go to? I already told everyone in my compound that I am leaving Nigeria. I was so sure and sold my household items. I told them never again will they see me. The only thing I have never seen buyer is my pot and plate, only for us to be denied visa.
Even my mum has told church we are leaving. How do I handle this? What do I say to those that purchased from us? How do I do this one now? My husband warned me and said please let’s wait, but the agent said it is a must we’ll get it. We didn’t get it,” she wrote.
