Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has apologised to Nigerians over the current poor electricity supply being experienced across the country.

The minister’s apology comes hours after reports that he lost the Oyo State gubernatorial bid, as he addressed the ongoing power challenges affecting homes, businesses, and industries.

In his statement, Adelabu acknowledged the hardship caused by the situation, particularly during the dry season when heat levels are high.

“We want to apologise to Nigerians, officially now, coming from me as the Minister of Power, for this temporary issue that is leading to hardship being experienced, especially during this dry season, where there is so much heat everywhere,” he said.

He added, “Businesses are being affected, schools have been affected, and industries have been affected. It is not our wish to find ourselves in this situation, but it is due to some factors that are actually beyond our control.”

Despite the current challenges, the minister assured Nigerians that efforts are ongoing to stabilise the power sector in the coming weeks. He also pledged that electricity generation would improve significantly, with a target to reach 6,000 megawatts by the end of 2026.

The apology has since sparked mixed reactions, with many Nigerians expressing frustration over persistent power outages, while others remain hopeful that the promised improvements will be achieved.
