A Nigerian legal analyst and World Bank Group professional, Vivian Irondi, has advised individuals to be more intentional about choosing life partners by considering factors such as financial standing, intellectual compatibility, and educational background.
The philanthropist and mother of two shared her thoughts in a Facebook post, where she emphasized that mismatched relationships—particularly those defined by significant financial or social disparities—often face long-term challenges.
According to her, relationships built on large gaps in lifestyle or expectations, such as the commonly referenced “rich groom vs. poor bride” scenario, rarely lead to lasting harmony.
She urged people to seek partners within a similar “tax bracket” and with comparable intellectual and academic alignment to foster mutual understanding and balance in marriage.
In her words: “I beg you, marry within your tax bracket. Marry within your intellectual capacity, and academic level too.
“Stop this rich groom vs poor bride, vice versa. It doesn’t end well.”
