In other news,,…Nigerian actress Juliana Olayode has expressed concern over how some social media users are participating in the “Holy Spirit, carry me” trend.
Taking to Instagram, Olayode pointed out that while it is perfectly fine to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance, using captions that reference personal traits like weight or body shape is inappropriate. She cited examples such as, “Holy Spirit no carry me because of my big nyash,” to illustrate her point.
She questioned whether people truly understand who they are addressing and called for respect and reverence toward the Holy Spirit.
Olayode wrote:
“It’s absolutely okay to ask the Holy Spirit to carry us; it’s a powerful prayer and a beautiful song. What I don’t understand are some captions that turn it into a joke. Seeing lines like ‘Holy Spirit no carry me because of my big nyash’ or ‘because I’m overweight’ makes me cringe. Do we even realize who we’re talking to the Holy Spirit?
“Let’s be careful. We shouldn’t turn something sacred into a punchline for attention. The Holy Spirit deserves honor and respect. Yes, we enjoy joking and having fun online, but sometimes Christians treat serious matters too lightly. People of other faiths wouldn’t dare speak disrespectfully about their god or prophet. Why do we throw the name of Jesus around without reverence? No, it’s not okay.
“Not everything should be treated as a game, especially when it involves someone so holy as the Holy Spirit. Personally, I believe we can have fun, laugh, and be joyful without being careless. Just sharing my heart.”
