  • Education Commissioner Ngozi Chuma-Udeh said the directive, issued under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s instruction, aims to ensure full academic activities across the state.

The Anambra State Government has warned that students who fail to attend school on Mondays will face a one-week suspension as part of efforts to restore normal academic activities across the state.

The directive was issued by the Commissioner for Education, Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a meeting with the management of Mount Olive Schools and Springfield Academy GRA in Onitsha on Wednesday, March 4.

According to the commissioner, the warning followed instructions from the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, who wants schools to fully operate on Mondays.

The two schools were invited by the Ministry of Education to explain why some students were allegedly absent from classes on Mondays despite the government’s directive.

Chuma-Udeh urged school authorities to comply with the policy, stressing that the state government is determined to ensure full academic activities at the start of every week.

During the meeting, the management of Mount Olive Schools said student attendance had improved in recent weeks. Officials from Springfield Academy, however, explained that some parents were still hesitant to allow their children attend school on Mondays.

Both schools promised to step up efforts to ensure students resume classes regularly at the beginning of the week.
