The Delta State Police Command has revealed a startling case involving a 17-year-old girl who allegedly teamed up with friends to stage her own kidnapping, demanding N500,000 from her mother.

According to reports, the teenager used the money to purchase clothes, leaving her mother who depends on farming for her livelihood shocked and heartbroken.

“She colluded with her friends, faked a kidnapping, and extorted N500,000 from her hardworking mother, who labors in the village to provide for her family,” the police said in a statement.

Authorities highlighted the need for proper upbringing and guidance to prevent such incidents.

“Parents must guide and train their children to ensure they do not become a burden to their families or society,” the Delta State Police Command advised.

The police also encouraged parents to monitor their children’s activities and friendships, stressing that early guidance is crucial in deterring youths from criminal or dishonest behavior.

This incident has ignited discussions about the importance of parental supervision in both rural and urban communities, underscoring how a lack of values and proper education can lead children into risky and deceptive actions.
