Lagos Police Detain Officers After Actor Ijoba Lande Alleges Assault

The Lagos State Police Command has taken into custody several officers accused of assaulting popular actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, for further investigation.

The development was confirmed on Friday, February 6, 2026, by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, following widespread attention on social media regarding the alleged attack.

According to Adebisi, the officers involved have been identified and are now under internal review. Statements are being collected from all parties, including the actor, his accompanying friend, and the implicated officers.

“The officers involved have been brought to the command for questioning. Currently, statements are being obtained from them, the complainant, and his friend. Updates will be shared as the investigation progresses,” the spokesperson stated.

Earlier, a video circulating online showed Ijoba Lande in the front passenger seat of a vehicle with visible injuries, including a bleeding left cheek and bruises. In the footage, he spoke in Yoruba, repeatedly asking for water while bystanders encouraged him to report the incident to the police.

A voice in the background claimed that officers from the Area “J” Police Division were responsible for the assault, describing the act as unlawful. By the end of the clip, the group appeared to have reached a police station, where the actor looked more composed.

The video caption further alleged that the actor was robbed during the attack, with his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200 belonging to his brother reportedly taken.

“I returned from the UK six days ago and was attacked by police officers here. They took my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” the caption read.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the case is being treated with urgency and that appropriate measures will follow based on the findings of the investigation.
