- A Nigerian lawyer has gone viral for advising people not to flee or tamper with a scene if a partner dies suddenly in their home.
- He warned that running or altering evidence could lead to suspicion and legal trouble, urging immediate police notification and legal counsel.

A Nigerian lawyer has sparked widespread reactions on social media after sharing blunt legal advice on what to do if a partner suddenly dies in one’s home.
In a viral TikTok video, the lawyer warned that panicking and fleeing the scene could irreversibly damage a person’s life, even if they are completely innocent. According to him, running away immediately raises suspicion and makes it extremely difficult to prove innocence.
“Don’t run. If you run, it will automatically be presumed that you are guilty, and it will become very difficult to prove your innocence,” he said.
The lawyer explained that once a person escapes from such a situation, law enforcement authorities are more likely to assume wrongdoing, thereby complicating the legal process.
He also cautioned against tampering with the scene, stressing that individuals should never touch the body, clean bloodstains, or wipe any surfaces. He noted that altering the scene could easily be interpreted as an attempt to destroy evidence and could attract serious legal consequences, including imprisonment.
Emphasising the importance of acting promptly, he advised that the police should be contacted immediately after the incident. He further urged individuals to call a lawyer right after notifying the police, warning against making statements under pressure.
According to him, if the police arrive before legal counsel, only one statement should be made.
“She passed away and I reported immediately. That’s all. Don’t say anything else unless your lawyer is present,” he added.
The video has since generated intense online debate, with many Nigerians describing the advice as unsettling but necessary.
