Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has opened up about the inspiration behind one of her recent songs, Big Daddy.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Nigerian singer revealed that the track is a feel-good record drawn from a personal experience. According to her, the song reflects a certain kind of individual she has encountered.
In her words, “Big Daddy was inspired by an experience of a type of person. I would describe the type of person as someone who wants to look cool but doesn’t work on themselves internally. It translates to someone who wants control but doesn’t add any value.”
Tems first gained widespread recognition after featuring on Wizkid’s 2020 hit Essence, which climbed to number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 following the release of its remix with Justin Bieber.
Since then, the singer, songwriter and record producer has achieved remarkable success, earning Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and BET Music Awards. She is currently signed to RCA Records in the United States.
