Rapper Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, has expressed worry about the growing presence of cultism in Nigeria’s music scene.
Expressing his frustration, the artiste claimed that only a handful of Nigerian musicians, including himself, have refused to join secret cults. He criticised artists who allegedly seek power and protection through such groups, noting that even those who introduce others to cultism still rely on police escorts for their own safety.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Naira Marley wrote:
“We no reach 5 weh never join cult for this [music] industry. Person weh put u for cult self dey carry police escort up and down.”
The singer has previously denied rumours linking him to cultism, stating that he was once threatened by cult members for refusing to join their group.
In other news… A Nigerian man has publicly defended his wife after she became the target of harsh criticism on TikTok following the release of their traditional introduction video.
According to the husband, some social media users flooded the comment section with damaging allegations, labeling his wife a former “street girl.” He described the comments as frustrating, unnecessary, and deeply unfair.
Reacting to the backlash, the man urged critics to stop projecting their frustrations onto others, saying that those who are unhappy with their own lives should not attempt to ruin the joy of others online. He expressed shock that grown men would engage in what he described as character assassination.
He further warned that making sensitive and defamatory claims without evidence is dangerous and unacceptable. The man added that he remains calm because his wife is not affected by the accusations, noting that he would have taken action if she were disturbed by them.
Emphasizing his trust in his wife, he explained that they dated for several years and that she had never given him any reason to doubt her character.
