Anthony Joshua’s Driver Charged To Court For ‘Reckless Driving’ After Deadly Crash

  • The trial of Anthony Joshua’s driver, Adeniyi Kayode, was adjourned to February 25 after a Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash killed two of Joshua’s trainers.
  • Charged with dangerous driving and other offenses, Kayode pleaded not guilty, claiming the crash occurred due to brake failure.

The trial of Adeniyi Kayode, driver of British boxer Anthony Joshua, has been adjourned following a deadly collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Kayode, 46, appeared in a Sagamu court on Tuesday for the continuation of proceedings related to the December 29, 2025 crash, in which the Lexus SUV he was driving allegedly collided with a stationary truck at high speed. The accident tragically claimed the lives of trainer Latif Ayodele and coach Sina Ghami, while Joshua escaped with minor injuries after switching seats before impact.

Charged with dangerous driving and other offenses, Kayode pleaded not guilty, claiming the crash occurred due to brake failure. The court has adjourned the case to February 25, 2026, sending the file for legal advice.

The incident has renewed discussions about road safety on Nigeria’s highways, particularly for high-profile travelers, as Joshua resumes training for upcoming bouts.
