Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has candidly shared her emotional struggles following the birth of her son, revealing that she experienced mixed feelings and initially found it difficult to bond with him.

Speaking in a recent interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the award-winning artiste admitted that she had always wanted a baby girl, a desire that shaped her reaction when she learned she was having a boy.

“Honestly, I didn’t bond with my son for the first year or two. I always wanted a girl. They told me it was a boy, and I started crying,” she said.

Savage also recounted how childbirth affected her physical appearance and career at the time, leaving her feeling frustrated and discouraged.

“So, when he came he was always crying and my body didn’t snap back. I looked horrible. I was supposed to do a campaign with Pepsi at the time and they turned me away. And I just thought this boy has destroyed me,” she added.

Reflecting on the experience, the singer said time and perspective have changed everything, noting that her son is now her closest companion.

“But now, he is my best friend,” she said.

Beyond motherhood, Savage revealed that her personal experiences have shaped how she is raising her son, especially in how he should treat women.

“I always tell him, you mum suffered oo, make sure you treat any girl like a queen. It is very important for me to raise him as a good man. He is going to make mistakes, he is not perfect. But at the core of him, I want him to be kind,” Savage stated.
