- The remains of the late Chief Sir Gabriel Odili George Ume-Ezeoke were finally interred in Amichi, Anambra State, more than a year after his death, following a family dispute over his corpse.
- The burial was executed by government officials, led by the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Ify Obinabo, and was authorized by a court order.
- The Commissioner noted that the delay was caused by the deceased’s brother, who allegedly denied the widow access to the compound and seized the body.

Te remains of the late Chief Sir Gabriel Odili George Ume-Ezeoke were laid to rest in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Thursday, December 4, 2025, more than a year after his death.
The burial followed a prolonged family dispute that kept Chief Odili’s body in the mortuary. Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Ify Obinabo, stated that the delay was due to the deceased’s brother allegedly denying the widow access to the compound and seizing the corpse.
Government officials led by Commissioner Obinabo, along with her staff, friends, and some members of Ume-Ezeoke’s family, were present to inter the remains, pursuant to a court order.
In her condolence message, Obinabo urged the family to embrace peace, reminding them that death is not the end of life but a transition to eternal glory.
Responding to the intervention, some family members appreciated the State Government for the effort made to ensure the burial of their brother and prayed for his peaceful repose.
In an interview, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Ume-Ezeoke, described her late husband, who passed away at the age of 76, as a kind and generous peacemaker who touched countless lives. She thanked Governor Soludo for intervening in the matter and bringing a solution to her difficult situation.
