- The Federal Government, through the Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu is avoiding a visit to the White House due to recent diplomatic tensions, including the U.S. designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and claims of Christian genocide.
- The Minister insisted that Nigeria-U.S. relations remain strong and that the President is not avoiding Washington, but will schedule a visit once “the situation is right.”

The Federal Government (FG) has denied insinuations that President Bola Tinubu is avoiding a visit to Washington amidst recent diplomatic tensions, particularly following U.S. President Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and his claim of Christian genocide.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, November 21, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, insisted there was no breakdown in Nigeria-U.S. relations, stating both countries are actively engaging on the issues raised by the Trump administration.
Addressing the question of why Tinubu has not yet visited the White House, Idris dismissed the idea of avoidance and emphasized diplomatic timing:
“Well, we believe that he will go once the situation is right for him to go. But he has been to America. I mean, I was with him at the U.N. when he took office,” the minister said.
