- Terry G criticizes Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia for downplaying claims of religious genocide against Christians in the state.
- Governor Alia, a Catholic priest, asserts that while Benue faces insecurity, it does not meet the criteria for genocide as defined internationally.
- His comments were made during a forum organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Abuja.

Nigerian singer and rapper Gabriel Oche Amanyi, widely known as Terry G, has taken aim at Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia for dismissing claims that Christians in the state are facing religious genocide.
Governor Alia, who is also a Catholic priest, recently argued that although Benue continues to grapple with insecurity, the situation does not fit the internationally recognised definition of genocide. He made the remarks during a consultative forum hosted by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Abuja, stressing that the violence and displacement happening in the state should not be labelled as religious extermination.
His position triggered heated reactions across social media.
Terry G, an indigene of Benue, reacted strongly in a video that quickly went viral. He expressed shock over the governor’s stance and accused him of being dishonest.
In the video, he said:
“Una just dey talk anyhow. Reverend, of all people, why una dey lie? How una go say there’s nothing like Christian genocide in Benue? So you never hear everything wey dey happen? What kind of governor be that? Una just dey yarn rubbish.”
The musician also posted a message alongside the video, insisting that Christians in the state are under threat:
“We refuse to be silenced. The Christian community in Benue is under attack no amount of denial can change that.”
The uproar comes at a time of increased global attention on alleged attacks against Christians in Nigeria. Even international celebrities, including rapper Nicki Minaj, have recently spoken about the issue at major global platforms, amplifying worldwide awareness.
