Veteran Nollywood actor Ebun Oloyede, popularly known as Olaiya Igwe, has finally revealed why he turned down gospel singer Tope Alabi’s request to use his car for her wedding years ago.
According to Olaiya, Tope approached him at the time to borrow his V-Boot Mercedes-Benz, which was one of the most sought-after cars back then. Although he initially agreed to help, the actor confessed that he already knew he wouldn’t be able to honour that promise.
Speaking at Tope Alabi’s 55th birthday celebration, Olaiya Igwe explained that his refusal wasn’t out of malice. He recalled that the car had been stolen by robbers not long before Tope’s wedding, and although he was lucky to recover it, he became overly protective and afraid of losing it again.
The veteran actor admitted that when he once spoke publicly about the incident, he received a wave of backlash that left him emotionally affected.
Reflecting on how times have changed, Olaiya noted that unlike Tope Alabi, he no longer owns luxury cars. He urged attendees to learn from his experience, emphasizing that wealth and possessions can come and go at any moment.
