Yeye Mofin of Lagos, Vivian Fowler College Founder, Passes Away at 92

Chief Mrs. Leila Euphemia Apinke Fowler, the Yeye Mofin of Lagos and founder of Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, has passed away at 92.

Born in Lagos in 1933, Fowler broke barriers as a nurse, lawyer, politician, and educationist. She trained at St Thomas’ Hospital, London, was called to the Bar in 1962, and later served as a councillor in Lagos.

In 1991, she founded Vivian Fowler Memorial College in honour of her late daughter, establishing it as one of Nigeria’s top all-girls schools. Her community service spanned the Nigerian Bar Association, Red Cross, and Corona Schools Trust Council.

Honoured as Yeye Mofin of Lagos by Oba Adeyinka Oyekan II, she is remembered as a trailblazer and silent achiever whose legacy continues to inspire.
