Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying campaign faces a setback after first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was stretchered off injured while playing for Chippa United against Richards Bay.
The 29-year-old’s condition is still being assessed, but his absence would be a major blow ahead of crucial fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa.
The Super Eagles are already without backup Maduka Okoye, who is serving a two-month suspension for betting offences. That leaves coach Eric Chelle with limited options: Amas Obasogie (yet to debut), Adebayo Adeleye (one cap), and 15-year-old Ebenezer Harcourt.
Nigeria currently sits fourth in its qualifying group with seven points, six behind leaders South Africa.
