In other news…. The authorities of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), have imposed an indefinite suspension on the popular “signing-out” tradition observed by final-year students during examinations.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke, who confirmed that the directive takes effect immediately.
The university explained that the decision followed recurring cases of unrest, violence, and disruption linked to the activity.
“The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University wishes to inform all students that, effective immediately, all forms of signing-out related to final examinations are banned on campus. This action became necessary due to repeated incidents of disorder and disruption associated with the practice,” the statement partly read.
The institution also expressed concern about the involvement of unauthorised persons who often join students on campus during such celebrations, describing it as a threat to the safety of staff and students.
Okeke warned that any student found engaging in the prohibited activity would face disciplinary sanctions, which could include suspension. She further stated that outsiders who attempt to participate may be arrested and prosecuted for unruly conduct.
Reassuring the university community, the Registrar stressed that UNIZIK remains committed to ensuring a safe academic environment and will not tolerate acts capable of jeopardising peace and order.
“All students are therefore advised to focus on their academic responsibilities and report any form of threat or misconduct to the relevant authorities,” the statement concluded.
