  • Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) administration is concerned about a missing female student.
  • Dorcas Oseghale, a chemistry student, has been unaccounted for for five days.
  • She was last seen on the evening of August 6, 2025, around 8 p.m.

The administration of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has raised concerns after a female student, Dorcas Oseghale, was reported missing and has not been seen for five days.

Dorcas, who is studying chemistry and holds the matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was last spotted on the evening of August 6, 2025, around 8 p.m.

She left her hostel at Adesanmi House on Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, to purchase food near the student village along Ede Road but failed to return.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, explained that Dorcas’ roommate attempted to reach her multiple times, only to find that both of her phone numbers were unreachable.

In an official statement released on Sunday, Olarewaju stated:

“The student, Dorcas Oseghale from the Department of Chemistry, matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was last seen around 8 p.m. on August 6, 2025. She informed her roommate that she was going out to buy food near the student village along Ede Road but did not come back as expected. Her roommate then tried to call her several times but was unable to get through to either of her phone lines.”

After the disappearance was reported, the university’s Security Unit began monitoring social media channels among students for any clues about her whereabouts.

Olarewaju further noted, “At about 6:10 p.m. the same day, a group of chemistry students searching for Dorcas, together with a female student named Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice from the Department of Agricultural Extension and identified as Dorcas’ roommate, reported the missing case to the university’s Security Unit.”

Given the seriousness of the case and limited resources, the university assigned three security officers to lead the search and to update the police with any new findings.

Vice Chancellor Professor Simeon Bamire praised the students for their quick response in reporting the situation and called on law enforcement and security agencies to intensify efforts to find Dorcas.

He also appealed to anyone with relevant information to come forward and contact either the nearest police station or the university’s Security Unit to assist in the search.
