Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, has reportedly sustained a broken right hand while in police custody.
The incident allegedly took place on the morning of Thursday, August 7, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. It follows Sowore’s recent social media post in which he accused Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of favoritism in the promotion of police officers.
According to a post on his official Instagram page, a team of officers led by a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) from the IGP Monitoring Unit allegedly stormed his detention cell and later transferred him to an undisclosed location.
“At about 6AM, a police team, headed by a CSP from the IGP Monitoring Unit, forcibly entered Omoyele Sowore’s detention cell at the FID in Abuja, broke his right hand, and transported him to an undisclosed location,” the post stated.

Sowore had been detained the previous day after reportedly honoring an invitation from the IGP Monitoring Unit.
