A US-based Nigerian grandfather, Jerome Nwonuma, has stirred reactions online after claiming that a woman is not part of the family she marries into.
Taking to Facebook on Friday, August 1, Nwonuma boldly stated, “A wife is not a member of your family.”
His comment has since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating the cultural and emotional implications of his statement.
In other news….. A young schoolgirl is currently receiving treatment in a hospital after being allegedly thrown from a moving car in Nkpor, Anambra State — a case that has sparked concern and calls for support on social media.
According to a woman identified as @qUeenofTheTown7 on X (formerly Twitter), the girl was discovered bleeding and unconscious by the roadside. Witnesses reportedly hesitated to help out of fear of being implicated, until one courageous woman stepped in to rescue her and called for urgent assistance.
“She was raped and is still unconscious,” the woman said in her post. “Before she passed out, she managed to say she lives in Odonla, Ikorodu, Lagos.”
The girl has remained in the hospital since the incident, with a good Samaritan reportedly staying overnight and providing her with clothes and other essentials. However, financial and emotional support is now urgently needed.
The woman also appealed to Nigerians, especially those in Ikorodu, to help identify the girl by her school uniform, which she plans to share while protecting her identity.
The heartbreaking story has since gone viral, with many Nigerians expressing outrage and offering to support the girl’s recovery.
