“Why I Didn’t Get Married in My 20s or 30s” - MI Abaga Opens Up

Rapper MI Abaga has opened up about his emotional journey to marriage, admitting he felt sad marrying later than most of his peers because he wasn’t emotionally ready at the time.

During an appearance on the Jay On Air Podcast, the veteran rapper revealed that by 37, he began to feel regret watching friends raise teenagers and prepare their children for college.

“I started to feel a little bad at 37. My friends who got married at 25 or 26 now have 14-year-old kids. Some have children heading to college. Even those who didn’t marry early still had kids. My brother Jesse, for example, has a 21-year-old child. Meanwhile, I had none at that time,” MI said.

He explained that things changed when he finally met the right partner.

“I met my wife shortly after I turned 39. She was there for my 40th birthday. I was finally ready. I proposed, and we got married when I was 41,” he said, calling their relationship divine timing.

Reflecting on his past, MI admitted he wasn’t mature enough in previous relationships and often emotionally unavailable.

“I feel sadness when I think about my past. I met some truly kind and supportive women, but I wasn’t ready. I was stubborn and immature,” he added.

He concluded by noting that everyone’s life journey is unique and that comparing timelines with others is unnecessary.
